Mind
True happiness doesn’t come from the control of outside circumstances, but rather is achieved within when many layers of negativity are cleared. When the cup of the mind becomes empty of the past, then the power of unobstructed and unlimited joy can fill our life”. – Kris Zurek
POWER OF THE MIND
Ever heard of the power of positive thinking or mind over matter? They all allude to the role that our minds, thinking, and attitudes play in our lives – how they can alter our reactions, and ultimately outcomes. Health professionals have come to realize over the years that our mental state does not remain in the intangible; it can also affect our physical state.
Have you ever noticed when you are around certain people that are very positive and upbeat, taking life in stride and making the best out of all situations you tend to get in that groove also? You begin to start seeing the best in people and situations as well!
The same is also true when you are around people that are not so positive. Ever work in a place with a person that seems to always pick out the negative? Such people try to avoid. Their conversations usually revolve around gossip, nagging on the bad with whatever the situations may be, always judging others harshly and encouraging you to agree with their views. It seems no matter what they encounter, the goodness is shoved aside and they easily find the sour and drag you down into their pit… looking for motives behind all actions, assuming that everyone is out to intentionally “get “ them. After awhile of being around them you start to see things the way they do. You can’t really explain it or even put your finger directly on the slow subtle changes but at a steady pace you are becoming just like them.
Your outlook can change your attitude…the people you surround yourself with can change your mental and emotional state…and yes all of this can and will eventually effect the state of your physical health!
STRESS
Stress . . . now that’s a word we are ALL familiar with! We each have varying levels of stress in our lives, ranging from the daily chores of maintaining a household to dealing with the death of a loved one. Our lives are stuffed full with stressors and through these we often develop negative thoughts and emotions. We become self-defeating and don’t take the time to care for ourselves the way we should.
We are wearing ourselves out with overworking and enjoying our daily lives less all the time. We exercise little and are spending most of our time juggling hectic schedules. We can’t control what is invading and growing in our bodies, but we can control whether or not our habits contribute to them.
Get in a habit, a routine, of taking care of yourself.
Your emotional wellbeing is so very important! How can you effectively take care of your family, do your job, maintain your household & try to be physically healthy if you are not replenishing & caring for the tool (YOUR MIND) that controls all the other tasks? Time block at minimum an hour per week just for you, I make sure I fit in 30 minutes a day that is just for me.
Here is a sample daily/weekly regimen-first go to your local co-op or health food store, if you don’t have one of these then a shop like Bath and Body Works will carry the same items however they will most likely not be organic. Grab some organic bath salts (if you do not have a water filter for your shower get one or you may choose to skip this step if you are concerned with the chemicals in the water). Then grab some essential lavender oil, lavender eye wrap, lavender shoulder wrap & booties. All of these usually have an inner bag that you can pull out and stick in the microwave for 1 minute or so.
After work and before dinner seemed to be the time when I would get the most benefit out of this. Make sure you will not be interrupted, warm up your goodies, take a drop of the organic essential lavender oil and rub on your temples and your wrists, pop in your CD and lie in bed for 20 minutes. Now the trick is to RELAX, try not to think of the 50 million things you have to do the next day, what you are going to make for dinner, when the next Soccer game is-this is time for you!
Take slow, deep breaths inhaling through your nose holding, filling your lungs completely, hold it for a moment and then slowly exhale through your mouth. While you are breathing take time to pray (if you are not a faith-based person then use this time for positive thinking) in a calm, intentional pattern think of people whom you are thankful for, recall things you have been blessed with, focus on the abundance in your life. The key is to not think of negative things or situations that cause tension. When you are thankful and listing out all the wonderful things Life/God/Universal Energy has blessed you with your mood shifts and your attitude improves putting you in a healthier frame of mind!

TOXIC EMOTIONS
The literal meaning of “emotion” is “energy in motion.” Something interesting to think about isn’t it? Our emotions are constantly changing, constantly transforming and affecting our days. Considering that emotions are a form of energy, it stands to reason that toxic emotions block our body’s energy flow. They can cause “chemical events” that foster and nurture a cancer-thriving environment.
Toxic emotions are highly influential in our ability to heal. A lot of times people see and understand the connection between stress and health, but they don’t always necessarily see that just as strong of a connection exists between health and our mental and emotional states.
If you know that you have toxic emotions, “pockets of pain,” or “breaks in being,” as they have been termed, then the starting point is to choose a path of holistic healing to cleanse yourself and your soul.
Next, identify the emotional state that is causing physical symptoms that you want to change. Search out the reason for this emotional state, the experience(s) that may have caused it, and realize that though the emotion and its effects may be negative, there was a good reason why you felt this in the first place. Most negative emotions began with a positive intention.
Next, choose to bring back that positive intention and bring it to life.
Challenge yourself to act out that positive intention in three ways, making a commitment to adopting a newer and more positive mental state of being.
Part of these actions may be to forgive someone you know or perhaps even yourself. Whether or not your grudge is against you or someone else, holding onto these emotions in the end, hurts yourself more than anyone else.
TOXIC THOUGHTS
Like emotions, thoughts can be equally as toxic. Have you ever heard the term “self-fulfilling prophesy?” It simply means that whatever it is that we believe will happen; will happen because we believed it. So if you fear that you are going to be alienated at a party that you dread attending, you may very well cause the people around you to do so by acting strange or aloof. Likewise, if you believe that you are going to get a promotion at work, you may very well cause that to happen by working diligently and taking on extra projects. The mind is an incredibly powerful tool.
Like with emotions, there have been many studies done to discover the true connection between thoughts and health. Two studies conducted of breast cancer patients, published in Lancet and in Women’s Health and Primary Care, evidenced that there was a correlation between depression, helplessness, hopelessness and a higher risk of cancer development, relapse, or even death. It has become apparent that negative thoughts diminish a person’s chance of survival.
Think positive, look for the good in others and situations!
As Napoleon Hill famously said, “Whatever the mind of man can conceive and believe, it can achieve.”
True happiness doesn’t come from the control of outside circumstances, Happiness is achieved within.

Let your mind start a journey through a strange new world. Leave all thoughts of the world you knew before. Let your soul take you where you long to be. Close your eyes, let your spirit start to soar, and you’ll live as you’ve never lived before.” Erich Fromm
